The Canadian Emergency Response Benefit is a generous relief package being offered by the Government of Canada to provide temporary income support to Canadians.
If you have stopped working because of COVID-19, the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) may provide you with temporary income support. The CERB provides $500 a week for up to 16 weeks.
Who Gets It?
Any person who is a Canadian citizen, is over the age of 15, has earned at least $5000 in 2019, and has lost their job as a result of Covid-19 is eligible to apply.
How to apply?
There are two ways to apply for the benefit:
- Apply over the phone by calling 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041
- Complete an online application here: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-application.html
Both of these services are available 21 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both services are closed from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Eastern time) for maintenance.
