Home Quarantine - How to Contact Your Relatives

Staying in touch with relatives is much easier than it was ten or twenty years ago. There are a vast array of ways that you can communicate with your loved ones, without the need to be in the same room.

Telephone - Talking on the phone has all of a sudden become popular again, now that authorities are calling for citizens to stay home and self-isolate. Picking up the phone and hearing another person’s voice is a tried and true method of communicating with far-off family members.

Texting - Sending a quick text to family members to check in is always appreciated, but you can also send a photo of yourself or a project you’re working on. You can update your loved ones on your state of mind so easily with a few words, some emojis or a photo.

FaceTime, Skype and Zoom - These three services are all video chat platforms, where you can see the other person live. You can access FaceTime through FaceBook Messenger from your phone, your computer or your tablet.

Skype and Zoom do require users to sign up for an account, but they each have free accounts for users who don’t require much time. The great thing about these services is that you can have more than two people on a call.

Group Chat through Email, Facebook Messenger or by Text

You can have an ongoing group chat through any of these methods. This is an excellent way to have everybody “chatting” about a particular subject. For instance, if one family member is struggling to get to the grocery store, other members of the chat may have ideas that can help.

Send a letter or package

Last but not least, if you want to connect with your loved ones, you can always mail them a care package or a letter to let them know you’re thinking of them.
