Real Canadian Superstore - The history

Real Canadian Superstores is one of the most popular stores in Canada. The chain of supermarkets was established back in 1977. The Loblaws Companies the largest food retailer in Canada is the owner of the chain. It was Loblaws who came up with the idea of opening such shops. It was a creation that supposed to hold back the competition. Superstores were the answer to the US's chain of supermarkets Walmarts.

In the beginning, the shops were called SuperValu, and the name was changed a couple of times. Some stores in some areas of Canada are still using different names but offer the same assortment. Western Canada was the first area where the stores were opened and later there expanded to Maritimes and British Columbia. In the year 2000 superstores were also available in Ontario.

Superstores depending on the region where they are based are offering different weekly specials. Usually, the specials are relevant to local communities are coming from the same region. Currently, there are at least 114 Real Canadian Superstores in six Canadian provinces. The stores can be visited in cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Grande Prairie, Surrey, Campbell River, Coquitlam, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Mississauga, Ottawa, London, Windsor, Toronto, Saskatoon, Regina and many more.
