Will Warm Weather Kill the Coronavirus?

How are Coronaviruses Different?

There are actually dozens of different coronaviruses, but only 7 of them affect humans. Another interesting fact is that up to a third of common colds are caused by coronaviruses.

Why there are more viruses in the Winter

In the colder months, people tend to gather in groups more often, helping contagious viruses affect more people at once. Viruses also spread through transmission of droplets when someone talks, sneezes or coughs. These droplets can more easily travel through the dry air, whereas humid air causes them to be heavy and fall.

How Covid-19 Coronavirus is Different

Because we have never encountered this particular coronavirus, the majority of people are highly susceptible to infection. That widespread lack of immunity has the potential to overwhelm any temperature effect on transmission rates, according to a study that modeled the effect of varying levels of seasonality on transmission, posted at medRxiv.org April 7.

In conclusion, while we may see a decline in Coronavirus cases when the weather gets warmer, this virus is not likely to disappear completely. As researchers do their best to crack the code of Covid-19, we may still be experiencing social distancing measures for a while longer.
