Covid-19 is a virus. Viruses are microscopic parasites, and are generally much smaller than bacteria. They lack the capacity to thrive and reproduce outside of a host body. 

Viruses are thought of as being in a gray area between living and nonliving. They don't reproduce independently but must replicate by invading living cells.
