Going Out for Dinner

Of course, going out for dinner isn’t exactly an option these days, however you could try ordering takeout and having a nice dinner at your own table. 

Or, you could follow along with the famous Italian chef Massimo Bottura, as he cooks up dinner on his Instagram TV series, which his daughter helped him film in their own kitchen. They affectionately call the show Kitchen Quarantine. The nightly demonstrations have been quite popular, with hundreds of thousands of people tuning in to watch Bottura cook dinner for his family.

 

Purchasing Auto Insurance

Many insurance transactions, including transfer of ownership and new policies, can now be done through phone and email. This is temporary to help meet British Columbians' insurance needs without in-person contact.

Also in British Columbia, BCAA has temporarily closed all service locations, however the Roadside Assistance service continues to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips says he wants to see insurance companies giving drivers breaks on their premiums that reflect the “devastating impact” of the COVID-19 pandemic. He says he met with the CEOs of the major insurance companies and told them their actions need to reflect these unprecedented times. Allstate Insurance Co. of Canada, which is giving all of its drivers a “stay at home payment” of about 25 percent of their monthly auto premium.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada says its member companies are offering reductions for the next 90 days that could result in $600 million in savings to consumers, and says drivers should contact their insurance representatives.

 

Banking

Canada's six largest banks announced limited operating hours and branch closures in mid-March in order to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Many services continue to be available through automated banking machines, mobile apps, websites and telephone banking.

The Big Six banks have all said they will reduce interest rates on credit cards to provide relief to customers affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
