Can a Pet Friend Infect You with Coronavirus?

The Bronx Zoo announced this week that one of its tigers tested positive for the new coronavirus. The four-year-old Malayan tiger named Nadia — and six other tigers and lions that have also fallen ill — are believed to have been infected by a zoo employee who wasn’t yet showing symptoms, the zoo said.

 

Can my cat or dog infect me with Coronavirus?

Currently there is no evidence to suggest that a pet can infect it’s owner with the virus, however, humans may be able to transfer the virus to a pet. 

The current stance on human outbreaks of Covid-19 is that it is believed to be driven by person-to-person contact.
