Now South Africans should wear a mask
Now, the South African government recommends that people use a facemask when leaving their homes. This advice is particularly important when you are likely to find yourself in fairly crowded indoor areas such as pharmacies and food stores. In these environments it can be difficult to ensure that you are the proper distance away from others in the store.
The Health Minister has cautioned that medical masks should remain the preserve of health care workers and that everyone else should wear a cloth mask. When everyone wears a facemask another level of precaution is added to the prevention system and we destigmatise their use.
Wearing a mask can help to protect others if you have the virus and you’re spreading. Most people are spreading the virus long before they start to show symptoms of Covid-19. It must be emphasised that it is still essential for you to wash your hands frequently with soap and water and that you must still practice social distancing.
