Be careful not to touch your mouth, nose or eyes when you put on or remove your facemask. Always wash your hands before putting the mask on or taking it off. Facemasks should be changed frequently, after single use or when they become moist. Moisture increases the permeability of the fabric so it no longer offers the same level of protection.

You should wash the mask immediately with soap and water on returning home. Leave it to dry in the sun. Iron it as an extra precaution. Don’t share your mask with anyone. Everyone should have at least two masks, one to wear and one to wash.

You’ll need to choose your fabric carefully when making a homemade mask. It should have three layers but you should still be able to breathe comfortably. You can easily make a mask from sheets or t-shirts. The CDC offers three easy ways to quickly fashion a face mask. Go safely.
