Staying active during lockdown

It may seem impossible to stay active when you are compelled to stay at home. Living conditions and spaces differ. So, for some it may be easier to stay active than it is for others. In South Africa the authorities have made it particularly difficult by banning any activity outside of the perimeter of your home. This includes walking the dog or taking a jog.

Lockdown is, however, not a ticket to a sedentary lifestyle.

The importance of staying active

Staying active is essential for both your physical and mental well-being. More so than ever, we can give ourselves a boost by staying active. Physical activity helps to keep the blood pressure under control and it lowers cholesterol. It also helps to keep the immune system in good form. It is vital for the maintenance of muscle mass and bone density.

Physical activity is also a great way to reduce stress and tension, as it releases feel-good hormones such as endorphins, at the same time suppressing stress hormones.
