Keeping in contact when in lock down

Tips for keeping in contact

The use of technology today makes it easy to keep in touch. WhatsApp, Facetime, Zoom, Houseparty and Skype all offer excellent video calling platforms. Video calling can help form close social connections because you can see each other’s facial expressions and surroundings.

The good news is that you don’t have to download Skype to use it. Anyone who has it can invite you to a call and by accepting the call you can join up to fifty people in a meeting.

If you’re working from home keep in touch with your colleagues or staff using email, Microsoft Teams, Skype or WhatsApp. Continuing to work from home helps one feel more connected and helps with the progress of time, but you must set boundaries.

Try messaging and phoning older people who may not be as comfortable with technology. Give them time to chat and reminisce. The days are long when you’re alone with nothing to do but watch the television or read a book.

If you’re separated and your children live with you make sure that the take the time to phone their other parent and keep in contact via video calling.

If you’re not living alone talk to the people you live with. Build relationships and enjoy the company.
